A Whole New Kind of Super Bowl

A Whole New Kind of Super Bowl                       More filling than a salad! Less carbs than a sandwich!
Look!  It’s a Buddha bowl!

Buddha bowls, rainbow bowls, hippie bowls...no matter the name, these bowls have become a trend with traction and no wonder!  Ingredients can be tailored to make a satisfying meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

They’re based on a balanced, nutrient rich selection of whole grains, lots of vegetables, some protein, and an element of crunch, like nuts or seeds.  Top it all off with your favorite dressing.  Any combination of raw, roasted, sautéed, or toasted components can work well. And then, the fun begins.  From this colorful array of ingredients, everyone can build their own healthy and hearty bowl.  Simple and satisfying, beautiful and fun to make- even for kids.

It's a Buddha Bowl Bar!  Some components to add to your bowl -  raw shaved fennel, pickled carrot spaghetti and blanched asparagus.  To add some crunch we offered toasted sliced almonds, black & white sesame seeds with sea vegetables and toasted pumpkin seeds.

A simply delicious time saver, Buddha bowls are ideal for a busy family. In advance, you can prep and cook the vegetables and grains that take a little longer. This will save time on those rushed weeknights. They’ll be ready to fill your Buddha bowls for quick and easy meals.   And, as a bonus, leftovers can be used as sides at other meals during the week as well.

When entertaining, how about a potluck Buddha bowl party?  For a lavish and varied assortment, ask each of your guests to bring an ingredient - a vegetable, grain or protein - be sure to check to see that you have a balanced selection!  You provide the dressings and maybe some dips.  How about some creamy hummus, chunky guacamole, or a piquant salsa?  For larger groups how about all three?  Add some beverages and get ready to kick off a crowd-pleasing meal no matter what team you’re on.

Whether it’s for a small group or a large crowd, the Buddha bowl is always a win.

We’d love to see some photos of your bowls on Instagram, tag #JeanneJournal !

A Ladies Workshop - Yoga, Buddha Bowls & Tea

At a recent gathering, I was asked to prepare a healthy luncheon for a group of ladies.  The afternoon began with a yoga class,  following by a cooking demonstration where I prepared some dishes for the lunch that followed. The menu,  make your own Buddha Bowl, combined various items that make up a nutritious and delicious meal in a bowl.  Using a myriad of colors and textures from a combination of raw and cooked ingredients, these bowls are a total crowd pleaser.
